Abella was born circa 1380. The exact date of her death and the exact time isn't yet established. Abella was a professor at Salerno's medical school on typical medical procedures including bile, women's health, and the bile. 1 Abella and Rebecca de Guarna, specialized in embryology. De natura seminis (on the character of the seminal fluid) was her second of published treatise. Salvatore De Renzi, a historian from the nineteenth century of the Salerno School of Medicine, lists Abella as one of four women together with Rebecca de Guarna, Mercuriade and Constance Calenda. They were all known for being able to impart knowledge in medicine and also write treatises. The attributes of these women put Abella in a class that was known as the Mulieres Salernitanae or women who lived in Salerno
